Celebrate Japanese-Canadian culture

May 31 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Japanese wedding

Did you know that New Westminster was the first city in Canada to have a sister city in Japan? In 1963, New Westminster and the city of Moriguchi, northeast of Osaka, signed a sister city agreement.

On May 31, come and learn about some of the Japanese traditions and the history of Japanese Canadians in BC. As well as watching the performance of Japanese dance and a tea ceremony, you will have the opportunity to learn some origami (paper folding), learn a simple dance, try on a summer kimono and sample some Japanese snacks and green tea.

If you have been to Japan, are planning to go, or just enjoy learning about another culture, this event is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Fir/Douglas Room   1:00 – 3:30      $10 members, $12 non-members
